Journey
Born Shatrughan Kumar Yadav in Dhanadih village, Saran district, Bihar, Khesari Lal Yadav grew up in a modest home with his parents, Mangru Lal Yadav and Renu Devi. Village festivals, folk songs, and local celebrations shaped his childhood and sparked an early love for music and performance. He set aside extended formal studies to follow that path and began singing at community gatherings and local events.
He entered the professional Bhojpuri music scene in the late 2000s, releasing albums and performing live across the region. His strong voice, clear diction, and lively stage presence quickly drew attention. That foundation opened the door to Bhojpuri films, where he took leading roles that combined acting, playback singing, and dance. Over time his work expanded across Bhojpuri, Hindi, Awadhi, and Haryanvi audiences. He has recorded under major labels including Saregama India Ltd, Saregama, and Times Music – Speed Records, building a wide following through a steady stream of songs and film projects.
His catalog includes popular releases such as “Roti Garam,””Kamariya Mein Peer,” and “Nathuniya 2,” along with Najariya Ke Dosh Lagata and Kamariya Lollypop from the film Rajaram. These tracks move between folk-rooted Bhojpuri compositions and wider Hindi and Haryanvi styles. He has shared studio and stage work with artists including Shilpi Raj, Priyanka Singh, Badshah, and Krishna Bedardi, connecting regional listeners with broader popular music circles. Alongside recorded music, he has appeared in dozens of Bhojpuri feature films, many built around his dual strengths as actor and singer, and he remains a regular presence on the live-performance circuit.
Recognition followed his rising profile. In 2016, he received the Best Popular Actor honor at the Bhojpuri Film Awards. The Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award came in 2017. In 2018, he won two Sabrang Film Awards: Best Actor (Male) and Best Playback Singer (Male), a rare pair of honors that confirmed his standing in both performance and vocal work. Media coverage has frequently described him as one of the most bankable and consistently active stars in Bhojpuri cinema.
Khesari Lal Yadav continues to release new music, star in films, and perform for audiences across India and the Bhojpuri-speaking diaspora. His long record of recordings, screen roles, and awards has made him one of the more durable and widely recognized figures in contemporary regional entertainment.
